Prototype Development II

Made some progress today in class. Came up with our theme (survival, isolation, self-reliance) and the player's goals (survival, building things). My job over the weekend is to work on designing the character, maybe throw together a low res model, play Stranded 2 and look at other people's art for inspiration, and make some environment art.

Since we've decided to have Shipwrecked take place during the age of sail, I'm thinking of giving the character a tattered white shirt with blue horizontal stripes - I'd make the stripes white to draw upon the color's connotations regarding isolation, but white on white is just plain white. So blue for the sky/sea and detachment connotations. If, further down the line, we decide to do multiplayer the blue can be swapped out for other colors to differentiate between players. The striping seems to fit nicely into a stereotypical pirate aesthetic while making the character seem like some poor schlub with no actual standing in the ship's hierarchy. The kind of person no one would really care was lost at sea. Round off the 'unwilling hermit' look with a pair of tattered cloth pants, a bit of rope for a belt, and a scraggly beard. Probably have the body sans-head be a golden section of the character as a whole for big-headed caricature goodness.
